Outi Kristina Karppinen

A Finnish citizen and resident of Guatemala, Ms. Karppinen has a background in development, human rights, and Latin American studies. She has extensive development experience in the areas of civil society participation and organizational strengthening, human rights, gender, HIV/AIDS, and indigenous populations in Guatemala and other Central American countries.

Over the last 15 years, she has worked for a range of Nordic and United Nations agencies in Central America, including the Danish and Finnish cooperation programs, UNAIDS, UNDP and the United Nations Verification Mission in Guatemala (MINUGUA). For example, she coordinated the Local Development Fund in Central America for the Embassy of Finland for Central America between 2004 and 2008. In this role, Ms. Karppinen was in charge of identifying, formulating and monitoring local development projects with civil society organizations in the region.
